St. John’s History

On Easter Sunday in 1982 in
Pottsboro, Texas, in a “cow pasture” on a gravel road, St. John’s Episcopal Mission had its first service. For many years the congregation worshiped and thrived in a “double-wide” on Cemetery Road in Pottsboro.  What we lacked in space, we  made up for in friendly fellowship!
In 2008, under the leadership of Rev. Ally Perry, construction began on our present facility on FM 120 just west of Highway 289 in Pottsboro. Hard work and dedication built a new worship and fellowship building.  Our first worship service was held in the new facility on November 1, 2009. It was a glorious day for St. John’s!
In May of 2013 St. John’s welcomed our new Vicar, The Rev. Nancy
Powers. Under her leadership St.
John’s is continuing their tradition
of being a friendly group of people
who enjoy worship and fellowship.

What we Believe
We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who has revealed himself in creation, in his interaction with his people, and most fully
through the person and work of Jesus Christ.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and contains all things necessary to salvation. We believe that Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead so that we might receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life in him. And we believe that the risen Christ is present in his church and in his followers through the
work of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion are a means by which we receive God’s grace and forgiveness. And we believe that no one is outside the reach of God’s grace.
